Deputy Warden of Support Greg Howard
Greg Howard began his career as Correctional Officer in July of 1991 at the Kentucky State Reformatory (KSR). While at KSR he advanced to Sergeant in 1994, Lieutenant then Classification and Treatment Officer in 1996, Captain in 2001, Training Instructor and Unit Administrator in 2004. In 2006 he was promoted to Program Administrator in Central Office. From July 1 thru September 3, 2007 Greg was assigned as Warden for Little Sandy Correctional Complex. He was promoted to Deputy Warden of Support Services for the Kentucky State Penitentiary on August 1, 2007. Howard has received numerous awards during his career for outstanding performance. He is a dedicated corrections professional who has an excellent work ethic and extensive institutional experience. In 2007 Greg Howard was awarded the title of Kentucky Colonel. (Kentucky colonel is an honorary title bestowed upon individuals by approval of the governor of Kentucky. The award is presented to those who make exceptional efforts to enrich the lives of Kentuckians and the world at large). Greg served as the Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) Commander at KSR for seven years. He currently holds the position of state-wide CERT Commander; is the state-wide Administrator for the Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT); Security Threat Group (STG) Coordinator and is department’s Liaison to the governor’s office of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He is a member of the Midwest Gang Investigators Association (MGIA); National Major Gang Task Force (NMGTF); Regional Organized Crime Information Center (ROCIC); American Correctional Association (ACA); the Kentucky Council on Crime and Delinquency (KCCD) and Southern States Correctional Association (SSCA). Howard is a 1989 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in Police Administration. He is a proud member of the White’s Run Baptist Church in Easterday, Kentucky.
