Biography

Aaron B. Smith was born in 1965 in LaGrange, Kentucky, and has been a resident of Oldham County his entire life.  He attended the University of Louisville on an athletic scholarship and graduated with a degree in “Sociology” in 1988.

Smith began his employment in State Government in August of 1988 as a Family Service Worker in the Investigations Division of Child Protective Services.  He was promoted to the levels of Family Service Worker Principal and Family Service Worker Chief prior to transferring to the Louisville Division of Probation and Parole in 1993.  In 1996, Smith came to work for Adult Institutions as a Classification and Treatment Officer at the Kentucky State Reformatory.  In 1998, he was promoted to the position of Institutional Parole Officer and covered both the Kentucky State Reformatory and the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women. In 2002, he was promoted to Unit Administrator II at the Kentucky State Reformatory.  While in this position, he supervised Unit C, which is an outpatient psychiatric unit, and most recently was in charge of the Unit D-Segregation Unit.

In November of 2004, Aaron Smith was promoted to Deputy Warden III at Roederer Correctional Complex.
